Skunk went missing from Overseers Cottage in Constantia Nek on 16 June. His humans, Rotma Shachar and Andrew Whitehouse, reached out to the Cape Town community for all the help they could get, even offering a R10 000 reward.
The search quickly went viral on social media, but weeks passed by and this pooch was nowhere to be found. Until today.
Angel Campey really is an angel. When walking her dog at a park, a group of children asked her for help – a dog was spotted trapped in a storm drain. Not just any dog: a Boston Terrier.
“Wow. Drama at the dog park, kids in the play area came to call me (the only person with a dog) to report a sad lone doggo, trapped in the storm drain,” Angel tweeted.
“I go over to see a shivering little Pedigree Boston Terrier, with one distinct blue eye and one dark patch one.” It’s Skunk!
But this wasn’t this pooch’s first rescue attempt. Kfm presenter Carl Wastie responded to Angel’s tweet, saying that he had spotted the runaway earlier this morning and chased him through Newlands to Rondebosch and Liesbeek River. Wastie lost sight of Skunk, who ended up hiding in the storm drain.
Campey details a very interesting rescue mission involving some reward-thirsty locals, two poodles, a golden retriever puppy and two bulldogs. It all ended with a check-up at the vet and trying to contact Skunk’s worried owners.
So now between their three phones we try to call the owners. One of the numbers is off the other says “wrong number dial again” so we remain foiled.
Only one of us has a car at the park, as the rest have walked from our places. So we agree she will take doggo to the nearest vet
