If you’re looking for a bar that exudes an edgy, retro feel, Cargo on Kloof Street is a must-visit. With its wall of framed photographs, old military memorabilia and laid-back rock music, it’s a nostalgic tribute to an era of adventure.
Opened towards the end of last year, Cargo quickly became a popular hangout spot for rebels, rockers and creatives. The walls are covered in rustic framed photographs of all shapes, sizes and colours, including black and white portraits of old pilots and soldiers staring moodily into the camera.
The marble countertops are bordered by dark leather booths, and scattered around the space are old boxing gloves, an army knapsack and metal lampshades hanging off large military hooks.
But the decor is just one part of what makes Cargo a unique spot. The happy hour special, available every day from 4pm to 6pm, offers house white, red and rosé for just R25, as well as beer, tequila shots, Jack Black lager or pale ale for R25 to 45.

The cocktails are also not to be missed, with popular choices like the espresso martini, whiskey sour and berry mojito. And, the food at Cargo is just as impressive as the drinks.
Try the arancini balls stuffed with parmesan and napoletana, karoo lamb chops with a thyme jus or vegan gnocchi with shiitake mushrooms and mange tout.
And for those in need of a hangover cure, Cargo offers breakfast from 7am to 11am, Monday to Thursday, with a breakfast of choice, a coffee and a glass of orange juice for just R75.
Whether you’re in the mood for a night out with friends or a quiet Sunday breakfast after a big Saturday night, Cargo on Kloof is the perfect spot to sip on a yummy drink and take in the vibe.
