In February, the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS SA) assisted Fanie, a miniature pinscher from Mitchells Plain, in celebrating his 25th birthday in style.
Fanie, believed to be one of the city’s oldest dogs, was treated to a special party at the animal welfare organization’s adoption centre in Philippi.
The celebrations began when AWS SA nurse Jaque le Roux took to social media to ask businesses and organisations to help make Fanie’s day even more special.
AWS SA, along with several donors, went above and beyond to make Fanie’s quarter-century celebration memorable.
The dog, along with his owner, Abe Hendricks, 69, had been going to AWS SA clinics since he was a puppy.
Speaking with IOL, Hendricks stated that he never expected the AWS SA and everyone involved to go all out for Fanie.
Fanie belonged to Hendricks’ late wife, who died in February 2019, but followed him wherever he went.
