Faeeza’s story
Faeeza’s home is nestled on the corner of a courtyard in the heart of Bo-Kaap. Faeeza’s Home Kitchen is where she gets to share her passion for food, her culture, her life journey and stories. In her kitchen you get to experience authentic Cape Malay cuisine.
Faeeza grew up in Bo-Kaap eating the delicious Cape Malay Dishes her mother used to cook. Her mother never taught her any specific recipes, but Faeeza knew exactly how they had to taste. Her journey with cooking and catering started 25 years ago when she decided to open up a sandwich kiosk at the University of Cape Town. Then 25 years later she was asked to organise cooking classes for local and international tourists.
She loves interacting with people from all over the world and live out her passion for food!
Cooking classes at Faeeza’s Home Kitchen
The classes are fully interactive, and you will be rolling rotis, frying chilli bites, cooking curry and wrapping samoosas in no time. They are designed to suit all tastes including vegetarians and vegans. It is a way to bond with friends whilst experiencing something new.
Aside from the tried-and-tested tricks and techniques to Malay cooking that she will share with you, she strives to convey the passion for her culture and make it accessible to all.
The cooking class always ends with an intimate lunch or dinner at Faeeza’s dining table.
A typical class last 2.5 hours, including the meal, dessert and tea, and costs R550 per person. Reservation is required.
Faeeza’s Home Kitchen also offer addtional tailor-made cooking classes for team-building events, school programs or birthday parties.
The team-building events are available for up to 14 people. The classes are interactive and guarantee a unique and fun experience for you and your employees!
At the end of the cooking class you sample together the food you prepared.
Classes normally lasts for about 3 hours, and costs R450 per person. Reservation is required.
As for the kiddies, they offer Samoosas folding classes to juniors starting from grade 3 to grade 7. At the end of the class the children can enjoy their creation and even bring some home for their parents to taste – a fun experience for teachers, pupils and parents alike!
During the event the children experience our ways and culture in a fun interactive way.
The class lasts for about one hour and costs R100 per person. Reservation is required.
