It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Korean pop culture scene is well and thriving in the Mother City. Even though K-pop, K-dramas, K-beauty, and Korean culture, in general, have only made a home on the Western radar in the past couple of years, more and more Capetonians have found their way to South Korea’s Hallyu.

Fun fact: Hallyu is a Chinese term which literally translates to ‘Korean Wave.’ It’s transformed into a collective term that refers to the phenomenal popularity of Korean culture and pop culture – including music, series, movies, and anything related to Korea’s cultural economy – that has spread not only to Cape Town but to almost every corner of the globe.
So in celebration of all things Hallyu, and to shine the spotlight on the many local Asian and South African hidden gems here in our Mother City, K-SA will be hosting their third annual Asian Arts and Culture Festival next weekend, 10 and 11 September 2022.
