The much-anticipated annual SplashOut Seafood & Jazz Racing Festival returns to Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday, 24 February – promising a jam-packed afternoon of great food and entertainment against the backdrop of thrilling horse racing that will feature some of the country’s finest equine athletes.
The festival concludes the Cape Racing Summer Season and signifies the successful completion of the first phase of a year-long rejuvenation project. The refurbishments aim to transform the iconic racecourse into a world-class racing and lifestyle venue.
Horse racing fans can look forward to electrifying action at one of SA’s most celebrated racecourses. Some of the thrilling racing on the card includes the SplashOut Cape Derby (Gr1), the Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes (Gr2), the City of Cape Town of Good Hope Nursery (Gr3) and the SplashOut Prix Du Cap (Gr3).
Added to the festivities is the Khaya Stables Work Riders and Jockeys Championship Maiden Plate, which will see top-ranked riders pitting their racing skills against jockeys.
The event is sponsored by SplashOut for the second year in a row. SplashOut specialises in crafting high-quality print and fabricated products tailored to meet the unique signage and printing requirements of its clients.
They have played an integral role in the exciting renovations at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, which began last year. Some of these additions include LED screens and venue signage across the racecourse.
In addition to racing, families are invited to enjoy an afternoon of mouth-watering seafood, live jazz and some of the Mother City’s top street performers, complete with a dedicated kids’ play area.
Guests can look forward to the seafood village, which offers food trucks serving up a feast of prawns, sushi, grilled snoek, creamy mussel pots, calamari, delectable desserts and sweet treats, as well as traditional Malay dishes, pizzas and more.
The sound of live jazz will add to the Cape Town vibe throughout the afternoon and into the early evening.
Cape Racing’s COO, Donovan Everitt, says, ‘I am proud of the progress we have made up to this point, and we have been bowled over by the positive response from the local and international racing community, as well as our long-standing and new patrons.’
‘It has been our vision from the start to create a world-class racing and lifestyle venue that welcomes the whole family and we are well on our way to realise this dream. The next phase of our plans will be unveiled in the coming months.’
Eugene Naidu, SplashOut general manager, says, ‘SplashOut is delighted to again participate in this prestigious horse racing event and social occasion. A stroll through the venue will showcase SplashOut’s significant contribution to transforming this magnificent racecourse into one of the premier multipurpose venues in the nation.’
‘We look forward to hosting the crowds for a day full of exhilarating horse racing, great food, wonderful music and a family-friendly atmosphere.’
