Despite the disappointment of watching the Blitzbokke finishing in fourth position, thousands of spectators showed their gees at the HSBC Sevens over the weekend as the city’s stadium was turned into a festival of colour.

It would prove to be the Samoans’ weekend as they surprised friends and foes with their valiant performance and managed to beat New Zealand in the final to leave South Africa with the trophy in hand.
In stark contrast, the Blitzbokke will not be satisfied with their outing on Sunday afternoon, as they ended the Cape Town leg of the series empty-handed.
Despite a good start to the weekend, sweeping all before them to reach the trophy play-offs, the home team was no match for Samoa in the semis and would have been devastated to finish just off the podium after they went down 22-14 to the USA in the battle for third and fourth position.
However, neither the eventual defeats nor the pouring rain could place a damper on the crowd, as the festive atmosphere continued right until the final whistle.

Not all heroes wear capes in the Cape… but some still do
All Black supporters were out in force (only to be disappointed)
The stadium was filled with Santas and silliness
Plenty of cause for celebration and singing in the rain
