Parents of a Grade 6 pupil at Drakensberg Boys Choir School in KwaZulu-Natal have turned to crowdfunding to raise R 175 000 in school fees to keep their son at the world-renowned school.
Ten-year-old Ethan Palangangwe is from Eastridge, Mitchells Plain in Cape Town.
His parents, Kagisho and Candice want the best for their son.

“Ethan comes from a very humble background, his father Kagiso, works in law enforcement and his Mother, Candace works as a teacher’s aid. His hard-working parents want the best for their son, and the sacrifice they make to ensure that Ethan is given every opportunity to achieve his full potential is enormous. They need continued financial support to ensure that Ethan is able to stay at the school that is recognised as a National Treasure,” reads part of the petition.
Kagisho said as a family, they are desperate to keep their son at the school, according to Times Live.
“Drakensberg Boys Choir School is the only school of its kind in Africa and we are desperate to keep our son at the school to follow his dreams and represent his country,” the report quoted the father as saying.
Ethan was one of the boys featured in the school’s latest music video, Butter, which was released on 15 July, and was shot in Umhlanga, Durban.
