BCO Spicy Gingerbread Cookies
BCO has shared a recipe for how to make your own spicy gingerbread Christmas cookies, which when combined with a dash of the renowned local oil make for a memorable “mmmm” moment and nifty gift.
Serves: 15
Difficulty: Very easy
Prep and Cook: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 and ¾ cup flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- Heaped ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp allspice
- 12 TBSP soft butter
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup treacle sugar
- 4 TBSP maple syrup
- 5ml Banhoek Chilli Oil
Method:
- Mix the sugar, butter, and Banhoek Chilli Oil on medium speed for 2 to 4 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and maple syrup and beat until fully incorporated.
- Mix all the dry ingredients together and add them to the butter mixture. Mix slowly until fully combined.
- Remove the dough from the mixer and divide it into two, wrap it with cling wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius.
- Remove the plastic from the dough wrappings and place them on a floured surface to roll out the dough (1/8 inch thick for crisp cooking or 14 inches thick for a soft cookie).
- Cut the cookies with a cookie cutter, and make sure to use all the dough.
- Place the cookies on a baking tray that is lined with baking paper and bake for 9 to 10 minutes.
- Allow time for cooling before serving.
- Mix 1 cup confectioners’ sugar and 60 ml milk for the frosting, fill a piping bag, and start decorating!
