This weekend, in the quaint country town of Porterville, the fifth Proudly Porterville art and lifestyle weekend will occur. Just an hour and a half’s drive from the city, the 30 September to 2 October market is an art experience not to be missed.

With free entry, visitors have a chance to both purchase art and participate in activities. The art on display comes from a range of artists – emerging to acclaimed – with a variety spanning paintings, jewellery, ceramics, woodwork, beading and more.
On the itinerary is live music, workshops, culinary experiences and outdoor activities all for the whole family. This year’s event includes a picnic under the stars on Friday night, a gin tasting experience, a community market of crafts and food, and a cooking show and dinner hosted by celebrity chef Jenny Morris on the Saturday.

Multiple venues throughout the town will be showcasing the Proudly Porterville art, and new on the line-up this year is The Cowshed – a restored actual old cowshed that was restored by Amelia Keefer and her husband. Keefer will be displaying her ceramics along with the prize-winning ceramists Amelia Jacobs, and other potters.

With art from both local and visiting artists, many of the venues are in the artists’ own studios and homes. Other must-visit locations are Die Lighuis, Poppie and Picasso, The Red Tricycle, and the Jan Dunckaert Museum.
Nearly all the attractions are within walking distance from each other, meaning you can enjoy the exhibitions, stroll through the town and stop for a meal at one of Porterville’s top-rated restaurants for a bite. All of this takes place at the foot of the Olifant Mountains, the beautiful spot Porterville is located in.
Some artists you can anticipate this weekend are: Alna Prodgers, Andre du Toit, JP Meyer, Anneke Pasque, Carin Dorrington, Joey Koen, Katja Abbott, Paul Kristafor along with many others.
Take a trip out of the city this weekend to snatch the opportunity designed for everyone: art lovers, food lovers, families and outdoor enthusiasts.
