From nutrient-rich smoothies and veggie burgers to the most creative meat-free dishes, Cape Town boasts a variety of plant-based and vegan-friendly restaurants that celebrate healthy eating with bold, delicious flavours.
1. Nourish’d
Natasha Napoli launched Nourish’d on Upper Kloof Street in 2017 with a clear goal: to create healthy smoothies that people would love while adhering to a strict zero-waste policy. It quickly became popular among Cape Town’s vegetarian and vegan community and soon attracted others seeking alternatives to unhealthy fast food.
Nourish’d has since expanded, opening new branches in Observatory and Green Point. All locations now offer a full menu of healthy, meat-free dishes, from the adventurous CBD Peppermint Crisp smoothie to the tasty homemade lentil and beetroot patty burger. Their online store also features juice cleanses, tinctures, meal boxes, and zero-waste merchandise.

2. Pizzasaurus
Pizzasaurus prides itself on being a top spot for vegan pizza, and it lives up to that claim. This quirky and inviting eatery is located in Cape Town’s East City district. All 15 of their wood-fired, dinosaur-themed pizzas come in sizes ranging from ‘Medium’ to ‘Dino’. While some, like the T-Rex, include vegan bacon, many are purely vegetable-based. Be sure to try their signature ‘The Herbivores’, which features mushrooms, mixed peppers, olives, tomatoes, artichokes, and onions.

3. Seven Colours Eatery
In South Africa, the term ‘seven colours’ often refers to the vibrant array of dishes served to guests and family on Sundays and special occasions, especially the colourful selection of vegetables. Chef Nolu Dube-Cele has embraced this concept and the spirit of African cuisine at her delightful Seven Colours Eatery in the V&A Waterfront’s Battery Park precinct.
While the menu includes meat options, the plant-based offerings highlight local specialties such as umfino (maize ‘pap’ with leafy greens), isaladi yamazimba (a salad with roasted onion, peppers, chickpeas, and sun-dried tomato), and millet salad with zucchini, known as uphoko. Enjoy these dishes with local bread varieties like amagwinya or amarostile for a delicious, meat-free, and authentically South African meal.
Times: Monday, 9am – 5pm | Tuesday to Sunday, 9am – 6pm
Location: Battery Park, 3 Dock Rd, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

Their diverse daytime menu features bowls, salads, and all-day breakfasts, complemented by fresh juices and a range of healthy smoothies. If you’re exploring Kloof Street’s vibrant nightlife, their cocktails and snacks offer the same commitment to their values without compromising on flavour or ambiance.
