There’s a bit of magic to a blue Monday, at least when Marine Conservation Photographer Jean Tresfon captures it. Recently on a lucky blue Monday, Tresfon took to travel some of the best-loved spots around Cape Town alongside Seafari founder and pilot Alexander Vogel to breathe another perspective on Monday Blues.
Sharks, whales, cape fur seals and African penguins, mountains and islands all made up the entourage of gorgeous sights from above, captioned by Tresfon. Take a look:
“A superb day in Table Bay, looking from Big Bay over a flat calm sea towards Table Mountain”.
“Rafting cormorants just offshore from Blouberg”.
“The wider view of Robben Island, looking towards the iconic flat-topped mountain that signals home to so many people”.
“Rugby field sized patches of plastic trash scattered on the sea surface. We found several of these patches during a single flight. Humans need to do better”.
“The 328m long MSC Carole departs the Port of Cape Town en route to Coega in the Eastern Cape”.
“A beautiful big Brydes whale surfaces with a blow in between baitballs in Table Bay”.
“A somewhat different view of the Waterfront and the Table Bay Hotel with the Hottentots Holland mountains in the background”.
“Oudeschip and Duiker Point with Maori Bay lying in their embrace. Site of many shipwrecks, this bay is a favoured summer time dive site for many local divers”.
“A humpback whale surfaces near Oudeschip in between feeding in the dirty water”.
“A pair of kayakers visiting the Duiker Island cape fur seal colony near Hout Bay”.
“Noordhoek Beach vibes”.
“Slangkop Lighthouse with a small fishing vessel in the foreground”.
“The Crayfish Factory, a well known landmark at Witsand Beach with Hout Bay visible in the background top right”.
“Scarborough Village and some giant rip currents”.
“The Kromme River mouth just to the south of Scarborough”.
“Kromme River mouth abstract with birds sitting in the brown, tannin rich, water”.
“Cape Point, always special and always in a different mood”.
“Spotted gully shark aggregation at Buffels Bay beach. Always a treat to see these charismatic sharks in big numbers”.
“First of many yellowtail shoals spotted surface feeding during the flight, this one in Smitswinkel Bay”.
“A super rare sighting… a school of 5 sunfish or Mola mola swimming together near Partridge Point. This sight alone made the flight worthwhile!”
“Spot the yellowtail following the lures back to the boat. No fish on yet…”
“Millers Point and the Cape Boat and Skiboat Club looking back towards Cape Point”.
“A trio of humpback whales (only one visible on the surface) passes a massive shoal of surface-feeding yellowtail”.
“Humpback whale and surface feeding yellowtail”.
“A trio of humpback whales heading south from Ark Rock. The middle animal is significantly bigger than the other two”.
“Mayhem… a huge shoal of yellowtail thrashing the surface as they feed. So awesome to see these pelagic fish in big numbers”.
“Kayakers and tourists getting a close up view of surface feeding yellowtail. What an experience”.
“Stand up paddle-boarders enjoying the flat calm waters of False Bay on a perfect day”.
“Roman Rock lighthouse with a small line fish boat nearby”.
“Kalk Bay”.
“So epic to see African penguins out hunting in Table Bay”.
