The recent visit of Silversea Cruises’ luxury expedition ship, the Silver Cloud, to Cape Town was a momentous occasion. Silversea Cruises hosted a ship visit for invited guests during the Silver Cloud’s call at Cape Town in March, for the first time since the pandemic.
Although Silversea resumed passenger voyages in 2021, until now, protocols prevented invited guests from touring ships as visitors.
This global embargo was lifted in time for the Silver Cloud’s call at Cape Town, and local general sales agents for Silversea Cruises, Cruise Vacations, hosted their guests for a tour of the ship followed by a luxurious lunch on board the expedition ship.
The Silver Cloud is one of Silversea Cruises’ fleet of five expedition ships. Weighing in at only 17 400 gross tonnes, the ship carries a maximum of 254 guests, served by a crew of 212.

With all-suite accommodation, guests enjoy luxurious amenities in suites that range in size from 22 to 95 square metres.
Amenities on board include four dining options, a sparkling swimming pool with hot tubs, a gym, library and spa, spacious panoramic lounges, as well as a state-of-the-art photographic studio.
Cruise Vacations Managing Director Gaynor Galbraith Neill gave a short talk in the Explorer Lounge, giving a quick insight into expedition cruising and the stunning destinations that can be explored on all seven continents.
A tour of the ship gave an interactive look into life on board, including the stunning restaurants, lounges and lavish guest suites.
Silver Cloud departed Cape Town for a series of voyages that will include travelling via the Indian Ocean Islands, Middle East through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean and Europe before arriving in the Arctic for the season there.
Although the ship has left Cape Town, it made a lasting impression with its amenities and the incredible destinations it visits.
And, for those who missed out, the Silver Cloud will undoubtedly return to Cape Town in the future, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the world’s most beautiful and remote locations in the utmost luxury.
