Women’s Month is upon us and the Artscape is celebrating in spectacular fashion.
The Artscape Women’s Humanity Arts Festival is a celebration of all things woman with this famous Cape Town theatre offering a space and platform for all South African women to showcase their talent.
The festival is in its 16th reiteration and will take place from 3 to 27 August, offering a series of stage productions, two book launches, a film screening, among other things.
Breathing, grounding, and belonging are just a few of the themes this amazing festival will be touching on, with CEO Dr Marlene Le Roux emphasising this fact with her belief that women should be celebrated for the strong individuals and nurturers they are, as per EWN.
“What is the cause of GBV? Our productions speak to that to look at the systemic changes that needs to happen in our society. We need to look at cultural practices, religious practices.”
“On the 9th of August, in particular, we ask women, men, young men, young girls to come and sing along with Vicky Sampson. We’re going to plant trees, we are going to talk about and not talk and just have silence to remember those,” Le Roux said.
There are some incredible performances on the cards which include Karin Kortje in Cabaret and AbFab Drag – a tribute to the LGBTIQA+ Community.
