Airlink has temporarily suspended all flights to and from Hoedspruit in Limpopo after severe flooding left key access roads impassable and restricted operations at the airport, which serves surrounding communities, lodges and the nearby Kruger National Park, Cape {town}Etc reports.
According to Airlink, the decision was taken today, 14 January following worsening conditions in the area, with safety concerns preventing normal airport access and ground operations.
The suspension affects multiple daily services between Hoedspruit and Cape Town, as well as Hoedspruit and Johannesburg. These include morning and afternoon rotations typically used by leisure travellers, lodge staff and business passengers moving through the Lowveld.
The airline said all affected customers are being notified directly as it works through bookings for the remainder of the week.
Airlink confirmed it is working closely with local stakeholders to assist travellers impacted by the disruption. This includes coordination with SANParks and private lodge operators in and around the Kruger National Park.
‘Airlink personnel are working with their counterparts at SANParks and the other service providers to do everything possible to minimise the disruption and expedite the resumption of our flights and operations at Hoedspruit airport,’ said Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht.
The airline added that it remains in constant contact with role players on the ground as conditions evolve.
According to Airlink, flights will resume as soon as the relevant authorities declare it safe for the airport to reopen. In the meantime, customers are encouraged to monitor updates via Airlink’s app, website and official social media channels.

As noted by Airlink, safety remains the primary consideration, with operational decisions guided by on-the-ground conditions and guidance from local authorities.
