In global travel circles, recognition from Forbes Travel Guide carries serious cachet, and its 2026 Star Awards have again placed Cape Town firmly on the luxury map.
The latest rankings spotlight top-tier stays across more than 100 countries, with 2 400 hotels, spas, restaurants and cruise experiences assessed by anonymous inspectors who measure everything from facilities to service precision.
Two Western Cape standouts lead the pack: Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel and Delaire Graff Lodge, both earning Five-Star status, which is the guide’s highest honour reserved for properties delivering what it calls ‘the most exceptional overall experience’, as noted by Time Out Cape Town.
Ratings are determined by anonymous inspectors using strict criteria, as the guide emphasises that while facilities matter, service carries the greatest weight.
‘While the quality and condition of the facilities remain vital, exceptional service accounts for 70% of a property’s rating, reflecting the human element at the heart of luxury,’ Forbes notes.
