According to a recent international study by Autotrader in partnership with meteorologist Jim R N Dale, the Garden Route achieved an impressive score of 90.6 out of 100. The study assessed factors that contribute to an enjoyable road trip, including visibility, road quality, weather conditions, wind speed, temperature and humidity.
Stretching roughly 300km from Mossel Bay to Storms River, the route offers travellers a diverse landscape of coastal cliffs, lush indigenous forests and scenic mountain passes. Popular highlights include the dramatic Knysna Heads, a favourite stop for both local and international visitors.

The Garden Route outperformed some of the world’s most famous drives, including Route 66, Pacific Coast Highway and Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
