Spending a night at the Taj Cape Town feels less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping into a perfectly choreographed experience of elegance, comfort and just the right amount of indulgence.
Taj, a hotel in Cape Town’s city centre, has a historic façade and sweeping entrance. Inside, a subtle, warm and unmistakably luxurious scent greets you, immediately signalling that this wasn’t going to be an ordinary stay.

Check-in at Taj Cape Town was seamless, staff addressed me by name and offered a welcome drink and a refreshing towel as part of the elevated arrival ritual, while my bags quietly disappeared upstairs.
My room was a sanctuary. Think plush bedding you sink into, high ceilings, thoughtful lighting and a bathroom that feels like a private spa. There were those little touches that elevate everything: a handwritten welcome note, beautifully presented amenities and a turndown service complete with a small sweet treat placed gently on the pillow. It’s detail-driven hospitality at its best.

I made my way to the award-winning J Wellness Circle Spa for a full-body massage, and it was easily one of the highlights of my stay. The spa’s calming ambience, inspired by Indian wellness traditions, immediately slows your heartbeat. My therapist tailored the pressure perfectly, easing away tension I didn’t even realise I was holding. By the end, I felt lighter, calmer and utterly reset.

Afternoon tea at Mint Restaurant & Terrace was a treat in every sense. Delicate pastries, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, savoury bites and an impressive tea selection turned a simple afternoon into an occasion. It felt indulgent but never over the top, refined and relaxed at the same time.

Pre-dinner drinks were served at the Taj Lobby Bar and Lounge. The drinks menu is creative without being intimidating, beautifully balanced and elegantly presented, setting the mood for the evening.
Dinner at Bombay Brasserie was the culinary crescendo. The space itself is moody and glamorous, with rich textures and dramatic lighting. I ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan, and it was, without exaggeration, one of the best I’ve tasted. The sauce was velvety and fragrant, the chicken tender, and the naan perfectly soft with just the right hit of garlic. Paired with a deliciously refreshing drink, it was comfort food elevated to the level of fine dining.

The next morning, breakfast back at Mint was generous and beautifully presented. From fresh fruit and health shots to pastries and hot dishes made to order, it struck the perfect balance between indulgence and wholesomeness.
While I didn’t personally experience it during my stay, the hotel also offers a curated whiskey tasting at the Whiskey Lounge, an intimate and sophisticated experience guided by knowledgeable staff who clearly love what they do, and one more reason to linger a little longer.
A night at Taj Cape Town isn’t just about luxury accommodation in Cape Town, it’s about how every small detail makes you feel seen, cared for and just a little bit spoiled. And honestly? I could get used to that.
Indulge in Cape Town’s ultimate luxury at Taj Cape Town – from spa bliss at Jiva Spa and creative cocktails to butter chicken at Bombay Brasserie.
