Tourism Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu reported between January and June of this year about 15 million domestic trips were undertaken making this a big win for the South African tourism sector pre-pandemic levels.
In the media briefing, Sisulu said the cause of the domestic travel influx in the first six months was due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions. Where the ease and removal of travel bans brought a demand for travelling around South Africa.

However on average South Africans spend R 2,850 on domestic trips. While holiday trips increased by 23,8% compared with the same period in 2021 with international arrivals still 54% below 2019 levels. But have shown improvement in the first six months of the year.
While African land arrivals still count for leading South African arrivals and Zimbabwe being number one and with Mozambique tailed closely in second place, shadowed by Lesotho in third place.
Arrivals from the Americas increased by 331% and represented 128,991 arrivals.
