There were once millions of African penguins on the planet, but today there are fewer than 15 000 breeding pairs left. Unless we act now, we may lose these birds within a few years.
During the 15-kilometre waddle this Sunday, the organisation hopes to draw the attention and support of passers-by, shedding light on the African penguin’s plight.
Samantha, the penguin mascot of the Two Oceans Aquarium, will lead the walk.
The walk will begin at 8:30am at Muizenberg Beach and will lead to the African penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach in Simon’s Town.
