Beachgoers in Clifton yesterday were treated to a splendid display, thought to be a mother whale and her calf. They came remarkably close to the shoreline, offering a spectacle of spouting and joyful splashing.

Throughout this season, these whales are often spotted with their calves, using the warmer waters for the birthing and nurturing of their offspring.
