The Labia Theatre is the oldest independent cinema in South Africa, and it sits in the heart of our city. The theatre gives you an authentic movie-watching experience and offers both new and popular movies, as well as small independent films.
A great thing to note about the Labia Theatre is that they have a generator, so screenings are not affected by loadshedding.

The Little Mermaid
From visionary filmmaker, Rob Marshall, comes this live-action musical re-imagining of Disney’s 1989 Oscar-winning animated classic, The Little Mermaid, the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. Ariel makes a deal with the cruel sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life- and her father’s crown- in jeopardy.

Asteroid City
Nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes 2023.
Set to wow audiences, directed by the visionary Wes Anderson, and with an all-star cast, the romantic comedy-drama follows the transformative events that occur at an annual Junior Stargazer convention in a fictional desert town in 1955. Something incredibly unusual happens, and events out of everyone’s control spectacularly disrupt the proceedings.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Hope is a Journey.
Based on the bestselling novel by Rachel Joyce, this unusual British drama about life, self-discovery, and the need to pay respects, is about Harold, an unremarkable man in his sixties, who learns that his old friend Queenie is dying. Having passed through life, living on the sidelines, he embarks instead on a long walk, in the hope that his visit to her hospice, will present her with a reason to keep living.

From Tim Firth, the writer of Calendar Girls, comes this British feel-good musical film based on the Take That jukebox musical.
Like the stage production, the movie follows five best friends whose lives were changed at a concert by their favourite boyband.
Twenty-five years later they re-unite to re-live their memories. Filmed in the UK and based on location in Greece, the film follows the girls on a nostalgic tale of friendship, and negotiating adulthood.
