The Gin Bar – Wale Street’s hidden gem
Hidden behind Honest Chocolate Café in the city centre, this speakeasy remains a staple. One of its more intriguing quirks: it occupies a heritage building that once served as a mortuary, inspiring cocktail names and playful themes.
The Secret Gin Bar started in 2014 as a small passion project among four old friends. It was one of the few true speakeasies in the country at the time, requiring a password for entry. It’s situated in a romantic Mediterranean-style courtyard.
Over time, it has become one of the most well-liked bars in Cape Town. The building also has an interesting history worth checking out.
