Sempurna Estate
Boasting 450 hectares of unspoiled Karoo fynbos and spectacular garden views, the aptly named Sempurna (‘perfect’ in Indonesian) Estate is situated in the quiet countryside just outside the quaint town of McGregor, and is just the spot for anyone seeking to flee the city but in need of the comforts of home.
Sempurna offers both luxury and self-catering accommodations with three options available: Sentai Suites, Kecil Cottage and The Werf Package (A combination of the Manor House, Santai Suites and Kecil Cottage).
Santai is a big, historically listed 1860s barn that has recently been renovated into three beautiful self-catering double-room suites.
Idyllic for those that prefer an air of luxury, the spacious Santai Suites comprise a lounge, kitchenette, ensuite bedroom with king-sized beds, underfloor heating in the bathrooms and a private covered patio to bask in the tranquil surroundings.
For those wanting an authentic countryside experience, Kecil Cottage is the original settler’s house dating back to the 1860s that has been completely and authentically restored. Beautifully historic, the self-catering cottage nestles in a tranquil garden within the ‘werf’ and is close to the 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool.
It’s fully kitted out with a large lounge, a kitchen and dining area and a grand open fireplace for those chillier winter nights. The main ensuite bedroom has a double bed with underfloor heating in the bathroom. The private courtyard with a built-in braai is the perfect place to cosy up with your loved ones over some lekker food. The courtyard also leads to an extra separate ensuite room with two single beds.
Also a provincial heritage site with old buildings dating back to the 1850s, the estate is a working fruit farm that produces wine grapes, apricots, olives, peaches and citrus.

The menu showcases simple, vibrant, modern country cuisine inspired by local and regional produce. Restaurant goers can expect to be treated to dishes such as Laingsburg deboned lamb neck with red pepper, sugar snap peas, white bean and pasta; salted hake fillet, steamed West Coast mussels, smoked cream, spiced ghee and butternut; and for dessert, something like crème brûlée with apricot sorbet or cherry and almond tart with strawberry cream.
