According to IOL, Bantwini said the idea behind the festival was to do something for the people.
‘When we first came up with the idea for Abantu, the idea was to do something special for the people. It took us some time to get it right, but I think we finally have a well-rounded event property that everyone can look forward to,’ he added.
The concert, initially set to be held in March was postponed to October due to what the organisers called ‘an overwhelming response and support of Abantu’ that inspired them to ‘elevate the experience and curate something truly world-class’.
‘Come for the music, stay for the people,’ wrote Bantwini in a recent Instagram post after holding university activations in support of the upcoming concert at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University. Later this month, he’ll be headed to University of KwaZulu-Natal and Rhodes University.

Speaking to TimesLIVE, Bantwini said a few surprise acts will also be part of the concert and will be announced some time this month.
‘We have an incredible local and international lineup that I believe will bring a unique flavour to a local concert that’s unlike any we’ve seen before. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store for this historic show,’ said Bantwini.
It is believed the concert will see approximately 25 000 people at the DHL Stadium.
The iconic Osama hit-maker also alluded that the Abantu Festival plans to return bigger and better, saying ‘next year, we’re growing into 40 000 and the following year, full capacity, which is going to be 62 000 people’.
Suffice it to say, this is a musical movement not to be missed.
