As the year winds down and plans are starting to form for next year’s adventures, Zeitz MOCAA’s Centre for Art Education has announced its second intake of applications for the MOCAA Art Club, which begins on 11 February 2023.
This programme continues the museum’s commitment to furthering art education by creating a space for young artists to connect with each other through learning, discussing, and creating art.
“We really want to develop art literacy and criticality while building social cohesion in learners,” says Amy Cornfield, facilitator of the MOCAA Art Club.

“We especially want to emphasise the importance of thinking and talking about art that instills an understanding of diverse attitudes and practices,” she further explains.
The programme focuses on discussion and critical thinking, encouraging learners to engage with art not just in the classroom space but in exhibition studios too.
MOCAA Art Club 2023 will host 16 sessions, including orientation, which will result in an exhibition curated and installed by the learners.
The sessions will take place twice a month, on Saturdays from 11 February to 28 October 2023.
In alignment with the museum’s aim to improve art education and also address the issues of access to education that many people in our country face, the programme is intended for all keen learners.

To ensure accessibility, MOCAA Art Club offers, along with paid memberships, bursaries awarded to learners from no- and low-fee schools in Cape Town that show an eager interest in making, thinking about and discussing art.
A maximum of 16 learners will be accepted into the 2023 programme.
