Tamara Patel, Boschendal’s chief marketing officer, says: ‘Our farmers have been hard at work all year, nurturing and tending to our citrus harvest, and our orchards are now bursting with delicious, sustainably-farmed citrus fruit. Our Citrus Festival is a celebration of the bounty of our orchards, and we invite our guests to enjoy a range of authentic experiences this winter and the opportunity to live our farm their way.’

On 14 June and 15 June, guests are invited to join Boschendal’s expert farming team for an authentic citrus-picking experience in the farm’s historic orchards.
There are several time slots available for each of the days for guided groups to pick fresh, sustainably grown citrus.

This citrus-picking experience costs R80 per person and includes a bottle of water and 1kg of citrus to take home.
Spaces are limited, so booking for the orchard pickings is essential.

On both dates, Boschendal will also host a morning market next to the orchards, serving delicious citrus-inspired food and award-winning Boschendal wines.

The event will have a selection of clothing and jewellery stalls on offer, as well as tractor rides and face painting for kids.
Entrance is free, and all are welcome.

Guests can attend the Squeeze, Zest and Preserve Workshop on Saturday, 22 July, where Brenda from Brenda’s Preserves will teach the finer art of using farm-fresh citrus to make glühwein, marmalade, cordial and more.

The workshop will be hosted at the Olive Press and run from 10am to 2pm. Costs are R950 per person, including all ingredients, a snack and welcome drink and a take-home gift.
Space is limited to 30 people, so book now to secure a spot.

The Citrus Masterclass chef demonstration and 5-course lunch promise unmissable experiences for those with culinary interests. Guests will learn how to make a seasonal, citrus-inspired meal using farm-fresh citrus from nearby orchards, hosted by Boschendal’s executive chef Eric Bulpitt.

This intimate event includes a 5-course meal paired with award-winning Boschendal wines and a citrus-inspired gift to take home, as well as a rare opportunity to enter the farm kitchen and see the expert culinary team at work.
The experience is limited to ten guests per class and will take place on Saturday, 1 July and Saturday, 19 July. The cost is R1 800 per person, and reservations are required.

Finally, on 30 July, the Citrus Festival will culminate in a long table lunch. Guests are invited to a delicious three-course menu inspired by the best flavours of this year’s harvest, which will be served in the cosy indoor confines of the Olive Press venue.
There is only room for 150 people, so reservations are required. The cost is R950 per person and includes a special keepsake to commemorate the occasion.
Beverages will be available for purchase at a cashless bar.
