The Glitter Trail is a nine-day journey on a decked out bus through South Africa. Created by Michael Gladwin of Afrigay Travel, the tour will take you through the most exciting parts of the country, exploring Urban Johannesburg, its LGBTQ+ heritage and gay nightlife, then heading southwest towards Cape Town, stopping at some charming towns and villages in the Klein Karoo, Garden Route and the Winelands.

The bus tour explores South Africa’s diverse and dynamic cultures, with adventure, culinary delights, wine tastings, ziplining, gay parties and bottomless bubbles, while uncovering some of the country’s hidden LGBTQ-owned restaurants and experiences.
South Africa was the first country in the world to protect the rights of LGBTQ+ people constitutionally and the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, making it the perfect destination for the LGBTQ+ traveller.

“South Africa is the most LGBTQ+ welcoming country on the African continent, and we need to amplify that message, not only for Pride Month, but year-round. The Glitter Trail is a fabulous tour to do just that and we applaud Michael’s creativity for showcasing many of the amazing destinations of our great country,” says Martina Barth, Western Cape Chairperson of SATSA and IGLTA (International LGBTQ+ Travel Association) representative for Africa.

Martina goes on to say: “Hospitality means providing guests with a friendly, generous reception, so it should never matter whom they love or how they identify. With every diverse traveller, the world grows a little bit more tolerant, more empathetic, and more welcoming.”
The Glitter Trail, hosted by one of South Africa’s famous drag queens, will show South Africa off as a truly authentic and welcoming country.
Michael Gladwin, founder of Afrigay Travel, says: “As a proud South African, and proud of how our tourism industry is embracing the LGBTQ+ community, it is fitting to experience our beautiful Rainbow Nation this way. We will see corners of South Africa that are often missed, delving deep into LGBTQ+ stories and adventures that will touch your heart, make you laugh and help you party until you drop. It promises to be Fabulous-ness Overload!”
The Glitter Trail has three scheduled departures with more in the near future. Party shoes, a great sense of humour and bucket loads of fun are a pre-requisite.
