One thing that has become abundantly clear in the last few years is how fragile our natural environment is. As more and more people contemplate their impact on the environment, various organisations are trying to connect people to the planet.
One such organisation is Greenpop. This incredible organisation focuses on sustainable urban greening and forest restoration projects, but through ample dedication and passion, they have now gone on to include food gardens and fynbos gardens across South Africa.
A project that has flourished under their watchful eye is their initiative to create Fynbos gardens at under-greened schools, with seven schools currently under their belts. However, they’ve hit a bit of a snag and are calling on green warriors to help keep these incredible gardens maintained.
“We are in search of some active citizens to assist us on planting days for our Fynbos for the Future Programme. Volunteers will be helping us with planting, weeding, propagation and garden maintenance.”
Titled: Fynbos for the Future, the project was created in the hopes of providing an interactive fynbos learning space for under-greened schools which would lead to a three-year programme that would engage students and communities on how to effectively manage and aid in the conservation of fynbos.
“The vision for Fynbos for the Future is to inspire a green urban future, where biodiversity is accessible, valued, and protected by an active, engaged, and inspired citizenry through community-oriented urban nature conservation,” the organisation said.
If you’re interested in being part of this incredible initiative, volunteers will be planting fynbos plants, getting their hands dirty by weeding the gardens and working on creating a space that will allow for further planting.
