A case of murder and attempted murder have been opened after a 23-year-old man was gunned down in Lansdowne last night.
According to the police, the fatal incident happened on the corner of Jan Smuts and Turfhall Road in Lansdowne. The man was driving while a 25-year-old woman and a year-old baby were passengers. They were both injured and rushed to the hospital. According to News24, the two passengers were the victim’s wife and child.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut said: “An unknown suspect opened fire on the occupants of a white VW Polo on the corners of Jan Smuts Drive and Turfhall Road in Lansdowne The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, was shot and killed.”
He added that they have reason to believe that the incident was gang-related.
“The suspect fled with other suspects in a red Opel Corsa and they are yet to be arrested. Any person who can shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
