A fisherman off the coast of Lamberts Bay recently experienced the kind of moment that turns an ordinary day at sea into a story you tell for the rest of your life.
While out on a small fishing boat, A man found himself just metres away from a breaching whale, and it wasn’t a one-time appearance either.
In the video, the massive whale repeatedly launches itself out of the water in spectacular breaches, crashing back down in a spray of foam and waves, giving the fisherman a front-row, up-close (a little too close perhaps) whale-watching show.
It’s not unusual to spot whales along the West Coast during certain times of the year, but witnessing repeated breaches from such close range is something else entirely. In fact, the moment gives a whole new meaning to whale watching along the West Coast.
