Cape Town International Kite Festival 2025

The Cape Town International Kite Festival returns for its 31st edition on 25 and 26 October 2025. This year’s theme, Courage to Fly, highlights the strength it takes to face mental health challenges. Organised by Cape Mental Health, the festival has raised awareness since 1994. It brings together people of all ages to enjoy a meaningful and joyful experience.

This is the first full two-day festival since the pandemic. It takes place at a new venue, Youngsfield Military Base in Ottery. Gates open at 10am and close at 6pm on both days.

The skies will fill with colour as local and international kite flyers showcase incredible displays. Visitors can expect show-kites, interactive workshops, and live entertainment.

Families will enjoy children’s activities, food vendors, and an amusement park. Kite-making sessions allow everyone to take part in the fun.

Beyond the weekend, the festival continues online and in local communities. Events include the EduKite competition for schools and the Heideveld Community Fly.

Funds raised support Cape Mental Health’s free services across the Western Cape. For those unable to attend, the Back-a-Buddy campaign offers a way to contribute.

The Cape Town International Kite Festival is more than a visual spectacle. It’s a call to action for mental health awareness. Every kite tells a story of strength, resilience, and hope.
