Maynardville Open-Air Festival 2025 – Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
January 24 - January 25
R220
The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra is set to be a standout feature of the upcoming Maynardville Festival, returning with two highly anticipated performances this season.
Under the baton of conductor Brandon Phillips, this world-class orchestra will present Stormy Weather – A Symphonic Weather Report, a captivating journey through music inspired by the elements. From thunderous crescendos to serene melodies, the programme explores how composers have portrayed the power and beauty of nature.
John Woodland, a Cape Town-based musician, broadcaster, and scientist, will narrate this musical voyage, adding depth and insight as the orchestra brings the weather-themed repertoire to life.
The concert promises an exhilarating experience, featuring Mendelssohn’s Overture to The Hebrides, Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, and Tchaikovsky’s The Tempest. Other highlights include Rossini’s dramatic William Tell Overture, Dukas’ whimsical The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Debussy’s ethereal Clair de Lune. The performance will conclude with a stirring arrangement of the classic Stormy Weather, mesmerising the audience under the open night sky.
