One Man, Two Guvnors

Red Rocket, in association with DALRO (Pty) Limited, brings you One Man, Two Guvnors by Richard Bean. This fun and fast-moving comedy mixes British humour, live music, and wild physical gags.

The story is based on Carlo Goldoni’s A Servant of Two Masters. It follows Francis Henshall, a hungry man who tries to serve two bosses at the same time. He only wants a good meal, but instead finds himself in one mix-up after another. As the confusion grows, so do the laughs.

The show is created with the Waterfront Theatre School, the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, and Cape Town Opera. It is led by Red Rocket CEO Matteo Brambilla, who also plays bass guitar. Through this project, the independent power producer adds a fresh spark to the Homecoming Centre stage. The original play wowed audiences at the UK’s National Theatre in 2011, and now it returns with new local energy.

This play crowns Red Rocket’s year-long adventure into theatre arts. Many cast and crew members work at Red Rocket, showing how creativity runs through the company. The music features Red Rocket’s own band, Jun & the Kilowatts, joined by Cape Town jazz artist Duncan Johnson as Music Director. Together, they perform songs from Grant Golding and a few popular classics.

One Man, Two Guvnors is more than just comedy. It celebrates teamwork, imagination, and doing good. The production supports the Cheslin Kolbe Foundation and ASSITEJ South Africa, helping the arts make a real difference.
