that boy has no shoes

Following two successful runs at The Camden Fringe Festival 2024 and Voila Theatre Festival 2024 in London, That Boy Has No Shoes – A story about Apartheid in South Africa comes to Cape Town.

A ‘moving retrospective’ featuring four South African artefacts offers a profound glimpse into the horrors they witnessed under Apartheid. An axe, an eviction notice, a passbook and a camera serve as vessels of history, each carrying stories of the struggle—who they encountered, what transpired and where they were abandoned.

Who stood in the Battle of Andringa Street? How does a passbook recall Sharpeville? And where are the children? Blending verbatim accounts with narrative storytelling, this ‘poignant production’ brings to life the riots, forced removals, and protests that reshaped South Africa’s cultural and economic landscape. The result is both ‘compelling’ and ‘powerful.’
