Volunteer Wildfire Services Open Day

The Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) is hosting an Open Day at the Newlands Forest base. The dedicated volunteers have been hard at work planning a family fun day of epic proportions.

You can expect a day filled with exciting activities such as abseiling, snake displays, fire truck rides, tug-of-war, and indoor and outdoor exhibitions including helicopter displays. Firefighters will also be demonstrating their firefighting skills.

The (VWS) combats dangerous wildfires, with 300 volunteers located at 4 bases in the Western Cape (Newlands, South Peninsula (Noordhoek, Stellenbosch/Helderberg) and are on standby 24 hours a day to respond to fires and emergencies. The VWS has assisted the Table Mountain National Park, Cape Nature and Overberg District Municipality fight some of the wildest fires in the Western Cape.
