Qatar’s state energy company said it halted output at Ras Laffan and Mesaieed after what it described as military strikes on operating sites.
‘Due to military attacks on QatarEnergy’s operating facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City in the State of Qatar, QatarEnergy has ceased production of LNG and associated products,’ the company told S&P Global.
Reuters analysts warn the outage could remove around one fifth of global LNG supply, tightening markets already on edge from wider regional strikes that have hit refineries and terminals.
The disruption forms part of a rapid escalation across the region. The International Atomic Energy Agency said it had found no indications of damage to Iranian nuclear sites so far, while urging continued monitoring.
The United States Embassy in Bahrain warned Americans to avoid hotels in Manama amid ongoing drone and missile activity.
