F1 KitKat bars stolen in a European cargo heist saw thieves take a truck carrying about 12 tonnes of chocolate during transit, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Nestlé’s stated that the shipment, held 413 793 units of the new range, left central Italy and was due to reach Poland.
Nestlé said the vehicle and its contents remain missing, while investigators work with local authorities and supply chain partners. The company also said the stolen bars can be traced through unique batch codes printed on the packaging.
A KitKat spokesperson said the brand has ‘always encouraged people to have a break with KITKAT’, adding that thieves had taken that message ‘too literally’.
The statement also warned that ‘cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes’.
Nestlé said the theft appears to fit a wider pattern of freight crime, with the company pointing to a recent industry report on rising cargo theft and freight fraud.
The missing shipment could move through unofficial sales channels across Europe, but no one was hurt during the incident.
