Actor and film producer Patrick Muldoon, best known for his role as Austin Reed in Days of Our Lives and Richard Hart in Melrose Place, has died at the age of 57, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Muldoon died suddenly on Sunday, 19 April, with his death confirmed by his manager and family, according to several international publications, with early reports indicating that the actor suffered a heart attack at his home in Beverly Hills.
Paramedics arrived on scene after he was found unconscious by his girlfriend.
Just days prior to his death, Muldoon had taken to social media to share his excitement regarding a new project:
‘So excited to be a part of this amazing project KOCKROACH directed by Matt Ross, starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Edgerton, Zazzie Beetz and Alec Baldwin. Filming now in Australia,’ the caption read.
Muldoon rose to fame in the early 1990s when he originated the role of Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, appearing from 1992 to 1995 and later reprising the role in 2011.
His performance helped solidify him as a household name in daytime television, with the show later paying tribute, noting that he left ‘an indelible mark’ on the series and its cast.
Branching off from daytime TV, Muldoon became a familiar face on primetime screens with his role as Richard Hart in Melrose Place and appearing in a range of television and film projects throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He also found success on the big screen, most notably in the 1997 sci-fi cult classic Starship Troopers, where he played Zander Barcalow.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, he built a diverse portfolio as an actor, producer and musician, even fronting the band The Sleeping Masses.
He remained active in the industry until his death, with new projects in development and recent film work complete – making news of his passing embodied by shock and despair among fans, colleagues and loved ones.
Tributes have since poured in, with many remembering him as a charismatic and dedicated performer whose work defined an era of television. He is survived by his partner, parents and extended family.
