• Aspiring chefs, foodies and everyone else who appreciates great food, here’s your chance to get behind the scenes at one of the Cape’s finest restaurants.

    Peter Tempelhoff and Ashley Moss, renowned chefs of Greenhouse at The Cellars-Hohenhort Hotel, are offering an opportunity for culinary enthusiasts or budding young chefs to become part of the team for a day. The program will offer a first-hand experience of being a chef followed by a dining experience in the Greenhouse Restaurant.

    The Chef For a Day programme will work on a half or full day structure at the various food preparation stations, within the kitchen, in preparing multiple award-winning dishes whilst learning professional skills and techniques. After a day of working, learning and observing, you will get the chance to dine at the Greenhouse Restaurant to experience either a 4-course lunch experience or the 12-course Greenhouse Experience menu for dinner.

    This program is ideal for friends or couples, who would like to spend quality time together honing their fine dining skills, as well as for the young, future chefs who would like to experience life in a professional kitchen, before making the commitment of enrolling at a chef school.

    Due to the highly personalised and hands-on kitchen experience of this programme, there are only two spaces available per day over weekends (Friday & Saturday).

    9:00 – 11:30am Kitchen preparation & basic skills
    11:30-12:00pm Foraging basics & herb identification
    12-12:30pm Plating canapés & starters
    12-30pm Lunch- 4-course menu with wine pairing
    2:30pm Ends

    Full Day Programme
    10am – 12pm Kitchen Preparation & Basic Skills
    12-2:30pm Hands-on Lunch Service
    2:30 – 3:30pm Break – light meal
    3:30 – 4:00pm Foraging basics & herb identification
    4:00- 5:00pm Wine pairing basics & tasting with Sommelier
    5:00-6:00pm dinner set up
    6:00-7:00pm Refresh & change for dinner (Hotel ‘day room’ provided subject to availability)
    7:00pm Dinner- 12-course Greenhouse Experience menu with wine pairing
    10pm Ends
