The spate of train fires that has plagued Cape Town is seemingly not over yet as the City’s Fire and Rescue Services responded on Monday evening to a train alight near Blackheath.

At 7.10pm Fire and Rescue Services were to the train on fire between Meltonrose and Blackhealth Railway Station. Two train lines were closed due to two train carriages being engulfed by flames.

The train was travelling from Strand to Cape Town when the fire broke out.

Four firefighting appliances, a rescue vehicle and 19 staff members were on the scene, no injuries were reported and Prasa officers were also present.

The fire was contained at roughly 8.30pm and eventually extinguished at 9.54pm.

The scene has since been handed over to Prasa for investigation, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
