It’s no secret our city is awesome – people always seem to leave a bit of their heart in Cape Town each time they visit. Case in point: Big-time international vloggers Adam and Joachim Wichmann (from the YouTube channel Forrest and Bob) who relocated to the city recently. Here, they tell us exactly why the Mother City is the place to be.
1 How does Cape Town influence your lifestyle?
We’re originally from Denmark and although being a beautiful Nordic country, the place doesn’t offer the same breathtaking views as Cape Town. We were in awe of the place within minutes after arriving a month ago. As YouTubers, we pride ourselves on making beautiful videos and it’s never been easier – just look at the drone footage we got from Lion’s Head a few days ago while hiking the mountain:
2 What do you love most about this city?
The people of Cape Town are the best. Everyone we’ve met so far has been very friendly and have shown great support of our YouTube channel. More and more Capetonians are watching our videos and it’s a good feeling knowing that the locals are behind you. Whenever we’re out filming, people come over to say hi and we enjoy the company. Besides the people, Cape Town has some of the best beaches and, being two pale Danish guys, we’re often seen tanning on the beach.
3 If your friend was visiting Cape Town for the first time, where would you take them first?
Every time we go to a new place, one of the very first things we do is to jump on a red City Sightseeing bus. It’s the fastest way to get to know the city, figure out where everything is and go from being a tourist to becoming one of the locals. When we arrived in Cape Town, we jumped on a bus immediately and would advise anyone to do the same. Your experience of a new place gets better when you can mingle with people without sticking out too much with a touristy-vibe. You can watch our first cheeky bus ride here.
4 Describe the city in three words.
Friendly, beautiful and exciting.
5 If you were to create a souvenir that represents Cape Town, what would it be or look like?
It would be two busts of my brother and my faces after a 13-foot Great White Shark rammed the cage we were in when we went cage diving in Gaansbai. It was a moment of pure excitement and it captures the spirit of Cape Town perfectly. The moment we’re referring to is about 11 seconds into this video.
6 What’s your favourite Cape catchphrase?
7 Three Capetonians we should be following online.
The sweet model, Jessica Buchanan helped out our fashion company forrestandbob.com with an interview a few months before we moved to Cape Town so we think it’s in order to send that favor back and tell people to go follow her on Instagram: @jessleebuchanan.
We just moved here a month ago so we don’t know that many people yet. We would love to say hi to some more Capetonians, so please feel free to ask ‘How’s it?’ on our Instagram profiles: @adamwichmann and @joachimwichmann.
