A protest that began yesterday in Blackheath has continued and road closures are in place once again. Wimbledon Way has been closed both ways between Buttskop Road and School Street.

City of Cape Town officials yesterday reported that South African Police Services (SAPS), Metro Police and Traffic Services Officers were on the scene.

It is not yet clear why the protests erupted, but the City reports that MyCity staff, along with the Transport Management Centre (TMC), were “communicating with drivers”.

City authorities have also informed the public of rioting in Parow Industria this morning, and have advised motorists to steer clear of the area as there are reports of stone-throwing. It is not yet clear why there is rioting in the area, but Industrial Ring Road is closed between De La Rey Road and Stroebel Road.
