One lucky Powerball Plus player correctly selected the winning numbers on the September 3 draw and won R70-million. The winner says she owes it all to prayer.
An unnamed Powerball Plus player bought a R7.50 ticket and played her lucky numbers instead of using the random number generator. She correctly guessed the five numbers 29, 09, 14, 2, 30 and Powerball plus number 8, making her the recipient of R70 873 741.30.
According to Powerball operators, Ithuba Holdings, the big winner is a single mother and domestic worker with piling debt. As her family’s sole breadwinner, she was struggling financially.
“The night before the draw, she says she put her ticket in the Bible a friend had given her and went on her knees and prayed to God [to] give her a sign that soon all her troubles will be over.”
“Continuing her story, she says she could not sleep and again at 03:00, she asked God to bless her and her family with good fortunes.”
Thousands of other lucky winners correctly selected some of the numbers and won prize money ranging from R5 to R191 000.
