It’s no easy feat to escape the holiday crowd in Cape Town but we’ve located just the spot. Somewhere quiet, calming and relaxing for you to engage all your senses with a glass of chilled bubbly in hand.

The Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia has come up with the perfect dose of fun and food with scenic picnics hosted on the rolling green lawns of their manicured gardens.

The five-star luxury hotel caters to discerning guests in need of an escape. The picnics are laid out against the verdant backdrop of the Hohenort gardens. The country’s second oldest camphor trees grace the verdant grounds – these majestic beauties having laid down their roots 300 years ago, back when the property was still known as Klaasenbosch Farm.

There are three picnic basket options with set menus to choose from. One includes tapas, fresh homemade baked ciabatta with farm butter, free range roast chicken, artisanal house salads in a jar with vinaigrette, carrot cake with cream cheese icing, bottled water and freshly pressed juice, for R185 per person. Picnic basket menu two and three include all of the above items and additional items for R200 and R285 per person, respectively. All Picnic menus are available upon request.

If you are in a celebratory mood you can elect to order from The Cellars-Hohenort wine list – there are various whites, reds or MCCs from which to choose.

Bookings are essential and should be made 24 hours in advance.
