A head-on collision, which took place on the N1 in the Karoo, has left one dead and two injured. The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, February 9, when one of the vehicles overtook the other.

According to Western Cape Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa, a Toyota Hilux bakkie and Mercedez-Benz crashed into one another. A passenger who was travelling in the Hilux, as well as the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, have been transported to the Beaufort West Hospital.

The driver of the Hilux was burned to death during the collision as the vehicle caught alight and trapped them inside.

According to Africa, mop-up operations were still underway on Sunday,  February 9, and the N1 has since been reopened.

A Facebook post alleges that a baby was also burned in the Hilux along with the driver, but this is unconfirmed.
