The Super Worm Moon can be enjoyed in the Mother City on March 9, 2020 at around 7.47pm.
Moons are named after features in specific seasons they are typically associated with. This particular moon gets its unfortunate name as it coincides with the time when earthworms begin to emerge at the end of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Other names include the Lenten Moon, Crow Moon, Crust Moon, Chaste Moon, Sugar Moon, and Sap Moon.
The Super Worm Moon is the last full moon before the equinox, which typically takes place in late March.
According to NASA, a Supermoon is when the moon is within 90% of its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. As a result, the moon appears as much as 30% brighter and 14% larger than usual, although it can be hard to spot with the naked eye.
The next and final Super Full moon is the Pink Moon, which falls on Wednesday, April 8.
