Some would consider the birth of a baby a miracle, while others may consider it a disaster. It appeared to be the latter for a woman from Pelican Park who allegedly dumped her newborn son in a bin next to their home, reports IOL.
The woman appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court after she was charged with concealment of birth but has since been released on R500 bail. The lifeless body of the child was found on Monday after neighbours became suspicious.
According to residents, the mom-to-be had been incredibly suspicious throughout her pregnancy as she often attempted to “press down hard on her stomach.” The 29-year-old later told neighbours that the baby was stillborn.
“We found out that she gave birth on Wednesday and hid the dead baby under her bed and put it in the bin on Sunday night because they come to fetch the dirt on a Monday morning.“
A mere month ago, the lifeless body of another newborn was discovered in a wheelie bin in Bellville, reports News24. The abandonment of unwanted babies has been described as a “pandemic” with many organisations urging mothers-to-be to seek help when dealing with unwanted pregnancies.
