Grabbing an uber while enjoying a getaway in one of the Western Cape’s small towns has always been a bit of a mission, but Uber is looking to change all this. The ride-sharing app recently announced that they are expanding their service to include smaller towns across South Africa, with a total of 40 cities in all nine provinces set to enjoy their services.
“Riders in these cities will have the option to request Uber’s best-priced mobility option, Uber Go – with trips starting at R16 and making use of smaller, fuel-efficient hatchback vehicles – or the original UberX category, with trips starting from R18,” it said.
No need to worry about price changes either as the group has stated that they will always be transparent when customers select their ride.
“No matter where riders are heading to, they will always receive an upfront price estimate, which means that they never have to wonder.”
In the Western Cape, the following areas will now be able to request an Uber:
- Cape West Coast (Vredenburg, Saldanha, Langebaan)
- Garden Route (Mossel Bay, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay)
- Worcester
According to Business Insider, the group is set to focus on affordability and safety as they attempt to improve South Africa’s access to transportation.
“Uber has further developed safety mechanisms in response to Covid-19, including a pre-trip safety checklist, world-first mask recognition technology and financial assistance to drivers who had been placed on quarantine by a medical professional,” it said.
