Great news for those itching to go on an adventure to the land of the maple leaf – Canada has reopened to fully vaccinated travellers visiting for non-essential purposes.
These travel adjustments came into effect on Tuesday, and only vaccines approved by Canada such as Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca-Covishield, and Johnson & Johnson’ Janssen will be accepted.
Canada is the latest country to ease restrictions to fully vaccinated travellers, and even though visitors won’t have to quarantine on arrival, teenagers travelling from South Africa will still have to undergo a two-week quarantine as vaccines have not yet been approved for anyone under the age of 18 in South Africa.
So what’s the protocol? Well, fully vaccinated travellers must submit their mandatory information including their digital proof of vaccination via ArriveCAN through the mobile app or website within 72 hours before their arrival to Canada.
Travellers must also submit their information before boarding their flight to Canada (if arriving by air) or prior to arriving at the land border crossing (or when entering Canada by marine mode). Individuals travelling on or after September 7 should submit their information after this time. Travellers using the App must ensure they have the most up-to-date version available in the Google Play Store or the App Store for iPhone.
A valid pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test result taken no more than 72 hours before flying to Canada must also be uploaded to ArriveCAN. Rapid antigen tests will not be accepted.
According to Business Insider, once mandatory information including flight, passport, and travel itinerary details is submitted to ArriveCAN, the visitor will receive a digital receipt which must be presented prior to boarding. However, passengers must still travel with a physical copy of their vaccination certificate and COVID-19 test result.
Travellers may also be randomly selected for COVID-19 testing on arrival, and those who test positive will be required to self-isolate.
